Product description

A definitive guide to Southern cooking and hospitality with 300 recipes, a two-color interior with nearly 100 instructional illustrations, an extensive appendix, 16 pages of gorgeous color photography, and plenty of tips, stories, and Southern history throughout.

Hi, y’all!

This book is my proudest achievement so far, and I just have to tell y’all why I am so excited about it. It’s a book of classic dishes, dedicated to a whole new generation of cooks—for every bride, graduate, and anyone who has a love of a great Southern meal. My family is growing and expanding all the time. We’re blessed with marriages and grandbabies, and so sharing these recipes for honest, down-home dishes feels like passing a generation’s worth of stovetop secrets on to my family, and yours.

I’ve been cooking and eating Southern food my whole life, and I can tell you that every meal you make from this book will be a mouthful of our one-of-akind spirit and traditions. These recipes showcase the diversity and ingenuity of Southern cuisine, from Cajun to Low-Country and beyond, highlighting the deep cultural richness of our gumbos and collards, our barbecues and pies. You may remember a few beloved classics from The Lady & Sons, but nearly all of these recipes are brand-new—and I think you’ll find that they are all mouthwateringly delicious. It is, without a doubt, a true Southern cooking bible.

I sincerely hope that this book will take its place in your kitchen for many years to come, as I know it will in mine. Here’s to happy cooking—and the best part, happy eating, y’all!

Best dishes,
Paula Deen

Nothing Takes the Soup Out Of Peanut Butter
Nothing Takes the Soup Out Of Peanut Butter
“Nothing takes the soup out of peanut butter quite like unrequited love.” Charlie Brown "Ants on a Log" made with homemade Cinnamon Raisin Twist Peanut Butter (inspired by The Peanut Butter Company's cookbook). Making peanut butter for me has dated back to that illustrious day in 659A Somerville Ave, with a grub processor, ton of peanuts and a best friend named Bradford. This batch, with a bit of a hand from Melissa and her tastebuds came out really well. Here's the peanut butter approach for anyone interested in trying it out: ============================= Yields: 1 cup of smooth peanut butter Ingredients: * 2 cups of unsalted dry roasted peanuts * 1 teaspoon of peanut oil * compress of finely ground sea salt Preparation: * Place the peanuts in a food processor and pulse until the peanuts form a paste. Add half of the oil and take up pulsing for another minute. Continue to add oil and pulse the food processor until the peanut butter is smooth enough for your...

Chocolate terrine with Custard Impudence and Pistachios
Chocolate terrine with Custard Impudence and Pistachios
Keep on Sunday we hosted a Winter Feast in honour of our friend Indre, who successfully defended her Ph.D. dissertation. Nick and I cooked a seven course supper. Most of the dishes were taken from the French Laundry cookbook, by culinary sensei Thomas Keller. Some others were recreations of dishes that Nick had at his brother's restaurant in Aspen. Each dish was carefully paired with its "perfect" wine. This was Clementine's magnum opus. It was absolutely to die for, somptuous chocolate glory in velvety creme anglaise. And the pistachios were covered in gold dust: the glitter in the photograph is not a trick of the incandescent, that's how they looked! (Best appreciated large). The final wine to go with this was a spectacular 2002 Sauternes. A collective blog of our experiences of that evening is captivating shape at edibles.blogspot.com/.

I tolerant of a cookbook as our guest book, people just signed the pages. There are some fun comments in there! I love that this method encouraged people to write something special rather than just signing their names. The page being signed in this photo is absolutely a photo of a dish Javier made! He has two items in this book, but they credited to the wrong person. Oh well, we know who really made those items!
